The workflow diagram below shows the general flow of information through a clinical lab and the functions that are being performed by Omnia LIMS.

- The Hospital/Practice is able to submit an order and receive results from/into their EHR/EMR system. For smaller practices, secure email and faxing (6) are available for report delivery and for orders via the client portal (7) only.
- Authorized users receive the samples, and proceeds to accession / prep samples at the lab.
- The MD Controller is a key component for integrating with instruments. This tool allows Omnia LIMS to integrate with any laboratory instrument. Communication between Omnia LIMS and the MD Controller is secure, allowing the orders and results to be sent back and forth. The MD Controller also feeds the required quality assurance (QA)/quality control (QC) data that is received by the instruments to Device Insights.
- Complete functionality of Omnia LIMS is available to authorized remote users.
- Once samples have been verified within Omnia LIMS, the billing data is automatically sent to Practizing. Once in Practizing, the billing team will be able to address billing issues and send the bills to the insurance company, clients or patients. The exchange of data is completed using our API/HL7 services which all software within the Omnia LIMS platform connects to. Our integration services allow for the Omnia LIMS team to easily deploy projects and to troubleshoot and address issues.
- Verified samples will be delivered to the laboratory's customer accounts through secure faxing, secure email, or through the secure orders and results portal.
- The orders and results portal will allow the lab clients, including clients that may travel (environmental chemistry), to login from anywhere to submit orders. From this portal, the client portal users may also view results. Clients will only be able to see data that their facility ordered or those which the lab has assigned to their specific facility.
